Our First Reconciliation & First Eucharist Program
Preparation for the Sacrament of Reconciliation (confession) and the Sacrament of Eucharist (First Communion) is a two year program.
Year one (first grade), students learn about God the Father, Son and Holy Spirit, about loving God and one another, the Church seasons and different ways to pray.
Year two (second grade) is spent on learning about and preparing for the sacraments.
If your student is older than second grade or has not attended formation in first grade and has not received the sacraments, contact Kate Heinzman when registering so we can help them prepare for the sacraments. The make up dates for First grade are below. First Grade make up dates required to receive the sacraments this year: (4 sessions with 2 options for each session)
October 4 in St. James Hall from 4:30-5:30pm OR October 5 in St. Elizabeth from 10:00-11:00am
October 21 in St. James Hall from 4:30-5:30pm OR October 22 in St. James Hall from 4:30-5:30pm
January 6 in St. James Hall from 4:30-5:30pm OR January 13 in St. James Hall from 4:30-5:30pm

The Sacrament Preparation Program is a special time. The goal is not just to teach facts but to initiate children into a Christian way of living and worshiping in the the community. Keeping in mind that faith begins within the family, this program involves the child, the family and the religion teacher as well as the parish community.
Important points to consider:
Full, conscious and active participation at Sunday Mass every week is the most powerful means parents have for preparing their child
The sacramental program is one parish program for both the families of school children and families of religious education children
The Easter season is the most appropriate time of the church year for the celebration of the Sacrament of First Eucharist
Children who have reached the age of reason (age 7) are extended an invitation to enter this into this sacramental preparation process
Readiness is evidenced by:
The child's desire to receive Communion
The ability to distinguish ordinary bread and wine from the consecrated Eucharist (Body and Blood)
The ability to receive Communion faithfully and reverently
Having received the Sacrament of Reconciliation
Information regarding preparation for the sacrament is given in September to families of children registered in second grade in the parish school or formation program.
Children with special needs are welcome!
We will work individually with each child to educate them at a level that is comfortable for them. Please contact Kate Heinzman at [email protected] to set up an appointment.
Sacramental Fee
The Sacramental fee for First Reconciliation and First Eucharist is $80.00 which covers all sacramental retreats, family sessions, the banner, all materials and the beautiful children's bible which will be used in classes for several years both in Catholic Formation and at Lumen Christi School.
