As a member of the Pastoral Council and liaison to the Stewardship Commission I have the opportunity to interact with many people in our parish who serve in a variety of capacities. A very accurate way to briefly describe the Stewardship Commission: we are connectors.
One of the events that the Stewardship Commission organizes each year is the New Parishioner Breakfast. It is a morning of fellowship and community building, designed to foster new relationships and provide insight on the many things that are happening at our parish. A member from each commission shares a brief update on their mission and how to become engaged.
On October 6 we hosted nearly 70 people and 17 new households. A truly uplifting part of that morning was hearing from each of the new parishioners about why they selected Lumen Christi as their parish. The reasons cited were numerous, ranging from our vibrant community, numerous young families, extraordinary music and highly-regarded school. One comment, however, truly summed up everything we hope to achieve as a faith community:
“I leave Lumen Christi each week feeling like a better person.”
It’s a simple yet powerful reminder reflecting our parish mission of “One Family Sharing the Love and Light of Christ.”
Become a Connector! If you like to meet new people and help them connect with others that share the same passion, the Stewardship Commission is for you. We help new parishioners with questions and assist them in becoming active members in their areas of interest. We also work with parish staff on communications to inform and engage. Another rewarding activity is hand writing birthday cards every month to parishioners over the age of 85 to help celebrate their special day.
The Commission welcomes new members at any time, to assist with tasks big and small. If you’d like to learn more about how you can become involved, please contact Stewardship Chairs Joel Wade ([email protected]) or Michael Kilian ([email protected]).
