Hello! My name is Fr. Michael Courchaine and I am overjoyed to begin my journey in the priesthood as the Associate Pastor of Lumen Christi.
I grew up in Sussex as the second of six children. My older sister is married with three kids and a fourth on the way, so I am blessed to be an uncle. My younger sister was just married on June 24th. I was very happy to be able to do the wedding, and it was my first wedding ever, making it extra special. Growing up, I attended a small Catholic school in Wauwatosa called Mercy Academy, where I first began to fall in love with my Faith and the sacraments. After that, I went to Brookfield Academy for high school. I played football as a wide receiver and corner and also ran the 800m and 4x400m in track. After that, I studied actuarial science at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. I played in pretty much every intramural sport they offered, including broomball, which I had never even heard of before. UNL also has one of the most vibrant Newman Centers in the U.S., and it certainly helped me to take my Faith more seriously.
In my last semester of college, although I had already accepted a full-time job offer to work for UnitedHealthcare in Minnetonka, MN, the Lord surprised me with a call to the priesthood. So, in 2017, I entered the seminary not really sure what to expect. Six years later and here I am, a priest of Jesus Christ, and I could not be happier. I look forward to being able to meet all of you, learn from you, and grow with you in these first few years of my priesthood.
God bless you!
Father Michael Courchaine
