Catholic Formation is a parish-wide team effort! We have many passionate, gifted volunteers from various backgrounds and occupations who give of themselves to help form our children, youth, and adults in the Catholic Faith. Enjoy the final installment in our series of awesome volunteer testimonies!

My favorite part of teaching Catholic Formation is learning so much about our faith right alongside the kids, and understanding their unique perspective on our beliefs. It is very easy to see and to encounter the Lord in each and every class with LC’s kids. From their enthusiasm about any and all things to their ‘sneaky-understanding’ of our Faith, it’s rewarding to see the Lord alive in their day-to-day lives.
One thing that ‘surprised’ me is the depth to which the kids actually do know and understand our Faith. It’s not always cool to act like it or show it, but it was amazingly refreshing to see how well versed the majority of the church’s kids actually are in the Catholic faith.
The greatest personal impact of my 18-years of teaching Formation has been in my own growth and understanding of our religion. I learn right alongside our youth, and that’s awfully rewarding.
What would you tell someone who doesn't feel qualified to serve in youth ministry? Trust me, I am NOT qualified to teach Catholic Formation! [Olivia's note: David is awesome.] But between the established curriculum, the kids' participation, and the opportunity to learn about our faith in the process, it is really easy to become a steward of our religion while taking the leap of faith in becoming a catechist. In the end, the Holy Spirit leads the discussion, so you’re already off the hook!
Child and Youth Ministries are in need of more volunteers in various roles: leaders, aides, and many different roles behind-the-scenes. Ask the Holy Spirit if He might be inviting you to share YOUR gifts, and receive even more in return. Get in touch with any of our CF staff to start a conversation!
