This weekend is the Solemnity of Our Lord Jesus Christ, King of the Universe, and it marks the end of the liturgical calendar. Next weekend, we will begin the season of Advent, a time of preparation for the coming of our Lord through His Incarnation and His second coming at the end of time. As we enter into the new liturgical year, Lumen Christi Parish will also be entering into a year long campaign to highlight Active Membership.
Lumen Christi defines active membership based on four pillars: being formally registered at the parish, faithful participation at Sunday Mass and holy days, regular financial contributions, and being engaged in at least one volunteer ministry. Over the course of the next year, each of these four pillars will be explored in depth through weekly bulletin reflections written by parishioners. These reflections will strive to not only emphasize one of the pillars of active membership, but they will also draw connections between the Sunday readings, so that we can live with more of a liturgical mindset.
While each pillar of active membership will be stressed, faithful attendance at Sunday Mass and holy days is crucial, so that we can each grow in our relationship with Jesus. When we grow in our relationship with Christ, we will then see how that relationship will transform and inspire us to share the gifts we have been given with others and our community.
