This week’s first reading is the familiar story of Moses and the burning bush. As a child, I remember being mesmerized by it, and now as an adult, it continues to fascinate me. I do not know if I have ever really taken the time to appreciate fire as an element. On one hand, it is necessary to cook and to stay warm, and on the other hand, it can be devastating like we saw earlier this year with the wildfires that ravaged California. Regardless, there is one thing in common: fire transforms whatever it touches.
How was Moses transformed in the first reading? God sent him on a mission to tell the pharaoh to release the Israelites from captivity. So, too, are we sent out on mission through our baptismal call to share the good news of Jesus Christ. How are you encountering the Lord during this Lenten season? How does that encounter with Him send you out on mission?
Our parish vision is “one family sharing the love and light of Christ.” Where are you sharing your gifts? St. Catherine of Siena, a doctor of the church, famously said, “Be who God meant you to be, and you will set the world on fire.” As a disciple of Christ, let the fire of His love transform and inspire you to become a more active member of this parish.
