Mary set out and traveled to the hill country in haste to a town of Judah, where she entered the house of Zechariah and greeted Elizabeth. When Elizabeth heard Mary’s greeting, the infant leaped in her womb…
This weekend we celebrate the 4th Sunday of Advent where the Gospel of John discusses The Visitation of Mary to her cousin Elizabeth after learning she will become the Mother of God. The Gospel passage itself is rich in Catholic doctrine: the Visitation is the second decade of the Rosary – Joyful Mysteries, a portion of the Hail Mary prayer is captured, and John the Baptist is evangelized by the yet unborn Jesus as Elizabeth is also having her own miracle birth. Did you notice the power of the greeting, however? How easy it is to simply say hello to someone at Mass with a smile and a welcoming tone. Think of the impact you could have on someone’s day?
If you’re good at smiling and greeting and would like to help evangelize another, please consider becoming either a greeter or an usher at Mass. Help is always needed. While simple and easy, by greeting another, you are helping Jesus to evangelize!
